Pricing For Your Channels

Stop Press:

  • You don’t have to set the same price on all the channels
  • You don’t have to make your direct price the same as the channel pricing – in fact it’s better if you don’t as many of the channels have a requirement that you don’t undercut the rate you set on their channel buried in their terms!

Consider this.  You’ve been on Airbnb for a while with a base rate of £100 per night.  If we ignore VAT for simplicity, they are going to take 3% off you for the host fee.

They are then going to ADD 14% for the guest fee.  So your poor guest is going to pay £114.  Many guests don’t realise that this goes straight into Airbnb’s bank account on some tax haven somewhere.  The difference excl taxes between what the guest pays and what you receive is £17.

So if you make your direct price £110, the guest will save £4 and you will earn an extra £13 and everyone wins (except Airbnb of course).

Each of the channels have their own way of calculating pricing and where it’s best to be is ensure that your favoured channels are a little cheaper than the others but that your direct website is the best price of all.
